Abstract
-------------------------------------- Abstract: This dissertation analyses a number of matters related with the concept of revelation in the Book of Daniel. The study is focused on chapter 2 (The Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about the statue), although there are quite a lot of references to another parts of the book, especially to chapter 7 (the vision of the four beasts and the one of the Son of Man), due to their strong similarity. The following hypotheses are defended in these pages: when chapter 2 was joined to the series of visions (chs. 7-12, but mainly to the vision of chapter 7), it had some changes and additions with an eschatologicalapocalyptic orientation, an element that was absent in the tales of the first part of the book of Daniel in its former version. It is also stated that the story of Dn 2 constitutes an inflection point in the understanding of the way in which revelation is given in the Bible. On the one hand, this account collects a rich tradition about the different modalities in which divine revelation is showed in the Old Testament «dreams and visions«, so that these will become united under the concept of «night vision». On the other side, the concept of Revelation, as it is showed in the story of the dream of the statue, adds an eschatological and universal perspective that wasn’t so explicit until this moment. This new nuance, which will be included in the New Testament, shows how revelation looks to the knowledge of God’s mysteries or secrets about the last times and, at the same time, expresses the God’s dominion over the entire human history. As such, the concept of revelation that reflects the final version of the book of Daniel is more focused on the «understanding» of the declared things ¿the heavenly secrets or the mystery’ than on the fact of receiving definite information. Finally, it is also explained in this investigation how the story of Dn 2 takes its roots into the prophetic and sapiential tradition, although it shows, above all, a stressed apocalyptic character, acquired in the further versions.
