Teatralidad fúnebre novohispana: exequias en honor de Feliciano de Vega organizadas por Juan de Palafox (1642)

Abstract

Estudio de las exequias a Feliciano de Vega, electo arzobispo de México, que falleció en el virreinato novohispano antes de tomar posesión de la mitra. Fueron organizadas por Juan de Palafox y Mendoza.

The new archbishop of Mexico, Feliciano de Vega y Padilla, arrived on December 5th, 1640 to the viceroyalty of New Spain but he died short after landing in Acapulco. The visitador general, viceroy, governor and capitan general of the Ncw Spain, Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, who was also a personal friend of the deceased, was responsible for organizing the memorial celebrations in honour of the creole prelate. Shortly after, an account of the festivities was printed in Mexico and dedicated to Counselor of Indies,Juan de Solórzano y Pereira, good friend of both protagonists.
