Significado de Sofrosyne auté en el Encomio a Eusebia de Juliano

Abstract

Análisis del uso de σωφροσύνη en el Encomio que Juliano dirige a la esposa de Constancio II, en particular la representación de Eusebia como Σωφροσύνη αὐτή. La potencial relación con la iconografía del prototipo Pudicitia difundida tanto en Oriente como en Occidente y la analogía que el autor establece entre Penélope, esposa de Ulises, y Eusebia pueden ayudar a comprender cuál sería el significado último de esta caracterización.-------------------This paper analyses the virtue of σωφροσύνη in Julian’s Panegyric in honour to Eusebia, particularly Eusebia’s representation as Σωφροσύνη αὐτή. It is explored as a potential link between Σωφροσύνη αὐτή and an iconographic model called Pudicitia, spread over the Western and Eastern Roman Empire, as well as the relationship of Eusebia to Penelope, Ulises’ wife, in order to find the ultimate meaning of this depiction.
