Christopher Nolan visto desde Gerard Genette: análisis narratológico de Memento

Abstract

El artículo realiza un análisis narratológico de Memento, partiendo de las propuestas de Gerard Genette para la literatura. Dicho análisis subraya la lograda adecuación entre la estructura narrativa del filme y su representación de la fragmentación de la identidad personal. Para ello, su guionista y director, Christopher Nolan, emplea principalmente dos recursos: la presentación invertida de la temporalidad, que subraya la focalización interna fija del relato; y la colisión de las versiones de los dos protagonistas principales, que deja el relato abierto, como reflejo del conflicto entre realidad y construcción que pesa sobre el protagonista del relato.

The article offers a narratological analysis of Memento, coming from the proposals of Gerard Genette for literature. That analysis underlines the achieved articulation between the narrative structure of the film and its representation of the fragmentation of the personal identity. In order to achieve that, screenwriter and director Christopher Nolan makes use of two resources mainly: the reverse presentation of the temporality, which underlines the fixed internal focalization; and the confrontation of the versions of the two main characters, which leaves the narrative open, reflecting in this way the conflict between reality and construction that burdens the protagonist of the film.
