Los hijos como víctimas: el infanticidio en Navarra (siglos XVI-XVII)

Abstract

El fenómeno de la violencia interpersonal ha resultado muy atractivo para los historiadores interesados tanto en la cultura popular como en el proceso de formación del estado moderno. De entre todos los casos de violencia, el infanticidio fue uno de los más duramente perseguidos por la justicia, y produjo actitudes en la comunidad que abarcaban desde la incredulidad hasta el desprecio por aquellas mujeres que cometían un acto atroz. También el derecho canónico intervino, condenando duramente a los infanticidas mediante la teología moral. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar este fenómeno en la Navarra moderna, comparando los resultados obtenidos con otros lugares de Europa. Navarra, pequeño reino fronterizo, nos permite acercarnos al estudio del infanticidio desde múltiples puntos de vista, aprovechando la documentación conservada en el Archivo General de Navarra, y analizarlo desde un punto de vista tanto cuantitativo como cualitativo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The phenomenon of interpersonal violence has always been attractive to the histo- rians who are interested in popular culture as well as in the process of creation of the modern state. Within all types of violence, the crime of infanticide was the most persecuted by justice. It also had an impact on communities and pro- duced numerous reactions, ranging from incre- dulity to disdain towards the women who committed crimes against children. Canonical justice also condemned these offences through the moral theology. The goal of this article is to analyze infanticide in the modern Navarre and to compare its data with other places in Europe. Navarre, which once was a small kingdom on the border of France, keeps in the Archivo General de Navarra sources thal allow historians to study the crime of infanticide from several points of view and analize it both from a quanti- tative and a qualitative perspective.
