Ciertas enemigas de Quevedo: las batracias y las “hembrilatinas”

Abstract

Este artículo parte de la relación entre varios pasajes de las fantasías morales quevedianas y algunos de sus romances satíricos, de una parte, así como de su sátira contra las «cultas latiniparlas», de otra, para tratar de mostrar la coherencia de dos imágenes odiadas por Quevedo: la mujer como rana —con las nefastas connotaciones que la acompañan— y la mujer que quiere equipararse al hombre con una erudición latina que llega al ridículo. El autor demuestra cómo bajo ambas imágenes subyace una aversión a lo híbrido, que afea y envilece el concepto de feminidad que tiene el Quevedo satírico. Una perspectiva que lo hermana con muchos autores medievales que compartieron sus mismas críticas. La finalidad última de estas notas es revisar la proverbial misoginia de Quevedo, refutando la extendida postura que la considera incuestionable. This article starts, on the first place, from the relationship between several passages of Quevedo’s «fantasías morales» and some of his satiric poems. Secondly, we also focus on his satire against «cultas latiniparlas». With the analysis of both aspects, we aim at showing the coherent link between two images hated by Quevedo: the woman as a frog —with the awful connotations that this conveys, and women who try to equate themselves to men regarding erudition, which results in a ridiculous situation. The author will attempt to demonstrate how, under both images, there is an aversion to hybridism underlined, which spoils and degrades the concept of femininity that the satiric Quevedo has. Many medieval authors who agreed with his criticism also share this perspective. The ultimate purpose of these notes is to revise Quevedo’s proverbial misogyny in order to deny the most spread position on the matter, which states that Quevedo’s misogyny should not be questioned.
