El disciplinante galán en la poesía de Quevedo

Abstract

El autor de este artículo, tras una detallada revisión de las críticas que han recibido los disciplinantes en los Siglos de Oro, e incluso en épocas anteriores, estudia en tres poemas de Quevedo (núms. 147, 712 y 724) la sátira a la que los somete el escritor madrileño desde diferentes perspectivas: seria y burlesca. Además de señalar, como otros muchos escritores, la vanagloria e hipocresía de los falsos penitentes, don Francisco alude a que su vergonzoso comportamiento se debe a que, como auténticos mártires de amor, dedican sus sacrificios no a Dios, sino a sus damas. The author of this article, after a thorough review of the criticisms received by the disciplinants in the Golden Age, and even in previous periods, studies in three poems by Quevedo (numbers 147, 712 and 724) the satire the writer from Madrid makes of them from different perspectives: serious and burlesque. As well as pointing out, as many other writers do, the vainglory and hypocrisy of the false penitents, don Francisco states that their shameful behaviour is due to the fact that, as real love martyrs, they offer their sacrifices not to God, but to their ladies.
