El sacerdocio ministerial al servicio del sacerdocio común de los fieles

Abstract

La profundización del Concilio Vaticano II sobre la naturaleza de la Iglesia como Pueblo de Dios supuso el paso de una imagen de la Iglesia vista primariamente como institución representada por la jerarquía –y sobre la que recaería la misión–, a una concepción del Pueblo de Dios en el que todos, en radical unidad, comparten la común vocación y misión, que cada uno realiza según sus posiciones y funciones propias. El sacerdocio ministerial y el sacerdocio común son diferentes en esencia, no en grado. Ambos son originarios y constitutivos en la Iglesia. Ambos se ordenan recíprocamente, según una prioridad substancial del sacerdocio común, y una prioridad funcional del sacerdocio ministerial. La «cooperación orgánica» de ambos es el trasunto dinámico-misional de su ordenación mutua. La misión de la Iglesia es «orgánica», es decir, la acción conjunta de fieles y ministerio, articulada desde sus posiciones estructurales en la Iglesia.

The in-depth account of the nature of the Church as the People of God articulated at Vatican Council II involved a shift from an image of the institution embodied in the hierarchy, whose prerogative was the mission of the Church as such, to a conception of the People of God in which all are radically united through a shared vocation and mission, fulfilled by each individual in their place and role. The ministerial priesthood and the common priesthood are different in essence, not in degree; both are original to and constitutive of the Church; and there is a reciprocal relationship between them: the substantial priority of the common priesthood, the functional priority of the ministerial priesthood. The «organic cooperation» between the two is the dynamic-missionary reflection of their mutual dete. The mission of the Church is «organic»; that is, it comprises the combined activity of lay faithful and ministers, carried out from their various structural positions within the Church.
