De la significación al sentido

Abstract

Partiendo del valor que las palabras «significación», «significado» (en cuanto «relevancia») y «sentido» tienen en el lenguaje ordinario, tal y como lo refleja el Diccionario de la lengua española, se procede a un análisis del valor e implicaciones del lenguaje. Las palabras expresan, en primer lugar, el contenido mental que poseen en la mente del que habla, pero su alcance va más allá, hasta alcanzar la realidad a la que remiten. El lenguaje tiene, en suma, dimensiones no sólo antropológicas, sino metafísicas. Y, precisamente por eso, es portador de sentido.

Based on the value of the words «significance» and «meaning» (in terms of «relevance») and «sense» in ordinary language, as reflected in the Dictionary of the Spanish language, we proceed to analyze the value and implications of language. What words express directly is their mental content in the speaker’s mind. However, their scope goes beyond, reaching the reality to which they refer. Language has, in short, not only anthropological dimensions, but also metaphysical ones. For that very reason, it contains sense.
