Sobre la iconografía de Santiago el Mayor en su Catedral de Compostela

Abstract

La catedral de Santiago de Compostela, como privilegiado espacio que guarda la memoria de Santiago Zebedeo, se constituye como un espacio sacro en el que la figura de este apóstol se nos muestra ya como “amigo del Señor”, ya partiendo de los relatos que aluden a su predicación y traslación. También el reconocimiento de su cuerpo y diferentes milagros tienen aquí un lugar de representación muy especial. Se tratan igualmente, en este caso, aquellas for- mulaciones de su iconografía que lo vinculan tanto con la idea de ser él quien funda de la Iglesia Compostelana como la referencia paradigmática de los peregrinos en los que el propio apóstol Santiago Zebedeo se refleja. No se tratan, en este caso, otros posibles modos de imaginar al Patrón de España.

The cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a privileged place that guards the memory of Santiago Zebedeo, is constituted as a sacred space in which the figure of this apostle appears as «friend of the Sir «, or coming from the statements that allude to his preaching and adjournment. The recognition of his body and different miracles have here a special place of representation. They are treated in a same way, in this case, those formulations of his iconography that link it both to the idea of being he who founds the Church of Santiago de Compostela both to the paradigmatic reference of the pilgrims in whom the own apostle Santiago Zebedeo is reflected. They are not treated in this case, other possible manners of imagining the Boss of Spain.
