Las variantes de autor en la obra de Quevedo

Abstract

Numerosas obras de Quevedo, en prosa o en verso, de transmisión manuscrita o impresa, han llegado a nosotros en varias versiones, posible reflejo de diferentes fases redaccionales, sobre cuya autoría y fecha, sin embargo, suelen discrepar quienes las estudian. Su correcta edición exige, en primer lugar, diferenciar entre las variantes de autor, las variantes redaccionales no de autor y las variantes de copista; y, en segundo lugar, editar cada versión de manera independiente, sin taracearla con pasajes de otras versiones, anteriores o posteriores. Tras analizar diferentes supuestos planteados por obras de Quevedo, el artículo concluye con una reflexión acerca de la idoneidad del procedimiento estemático en el caso de obras con varias versiones y con variantes de autor. Quevedian scholars and editors don’t agree on the authorship and chronological order of the many different versions —both in manuscript and published form— of Quevedo’s works in prose and verse. Two tasks must be accomplished in order to solve the difficulties of editing works preserved in more than one version. Firstly, to make a clear distinction between three different types of variants, namely those introduced by the author, by the copyist, or resulting from interpolation. Secondly, to edit each version separately, in order to avoid cluttering it with passages or words taken from earlier or later versions. This article ends with an analysis of the problems faced by the stemmatic method when dealing with texts preserved in two or more versions and containing author’s variants.
