La historiografía sobre la Iglesia en Uruguay (1965-2015). Investigaciones, relatos institucionales e itinerarios del «Pueblo de Dios»

Abstract

Between the 1950s and 1960s occurred in Uruguay a general renovation of historical studies that influenced the investigations related to the past of Catholicism. Research focused on specific problems was gradually implemented and conveniently planned by professional historians. In this article I analyze the configuration of the new historiography of the Church. My intention is to review the changes occurring in historical production (studies) from the essays of revisionist stamp of the 1960s, to the academic research of the twenty-first century.

Entre las décadas de 1950 y 1960 se produjo en Uruguay una renovación general de los estudios históricos que influyó en las pesquisas vinculadas al pasado del catolicismo. Se implementaron, gradual- mente, investigaciones centradas en problemas concretos, convenientemente planificadas y a cargo de historiadores profesionales. En este artículo pretendo analizar la configuración de esa nueva historiografía so- bre la Iglesia. Propongo repasar las transformaciones acaecidas en la producción histórica, desde los ensa- yos de cuño revisionista de la década de 1960, hasta las investigaciones académicas de los albores del siglo XXI.
