La necrópolis de El Forniellu (Leces, Ribadesella, Asturias) [Noticias]

Abstract

El presente artículo reúne y examina la escasa documentación (fundamentalmente periodística) que se ha conservado sobre la excavación de 1926 del área cementerial de El Forniellu (Ribadesella, Asturias). Basándose en el análisis de los pocos datos disponibles, se conjetura un prolongado uso funerario del espacio, al menos entre mediados del s. II e inicios del s. V d.C. El análisis de los ajuares tardoantiguos parece apuntar a la existencia de una clase socialmente privilegiada que controla un medio rural abierto a los circuitos comerciales y a la economía monetaria.

This article gathers and examines the sparse documentation (mainly journalistic) which has been preserved from the 1926 excavation of the cemeterial area of El Forniellu (Ribadesella, Asturias, Spain). Based on the analysis of the limited data available, a prolonged use of the space for funeral purposes is conjectured, at least between the middle of the 2nd and the beginning of the 5th century AD. The analysis of late antiquity outfits seems to point to the existence of a socially privileged class that controls a rural area open to trading circuits, as well as to a monetary economy.
