Arrio y la configuración inicial de la controversia arriana

Abstract

El artículo busca reconstruir el primer desarrollo de la doctrina de Arrio, sobre la base de los documentos anteriores al concilio de Nicea, con el propósito de comprender mejor las convicciones originales que movieron a los protagonistas de la crisis arriana del siglo IV. Se estudian por separado los diversos tipos de fuentes y se muestra que la motivación original de Arrio no es rechazar la divinidad del Hijo, sino defender su real distinción respecto del Padre en clave antisabeliana. Esta constatación permite comprender por qué la tendencia de Arrio obtuvo un apoyo tan amplio y tan rápido.

This paper tries to reconstruct the early development of the arian doctrine, on the basis of the documents written before the Nicene Council, in order to understand the original convictions that moved the actors of the fourth century’s arian crisis. The paper studies separately the different types of sources and shows that the original motivation of Arius was not to reject the divinity of the Son, but to defend his real distinction from the Father, against sabelian theology. This fact allows us to understand why Arius’ tendency obtained such a wide and fast support.
