¿Son las finanzas una «estructura de pecado»?

Abstract

A la luz de las crisis financieras de las últimas décadas, examinamos si el sistema financiero puede ser considerado como una estructura de pecado. Primero, exponemos lo que la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia y otras instancias han dicho sobre nuestra pregunta. La segunda parte abre una reflexión ética sobre algunos puntos sensibles: instrumentos financieros que han jugado un papel relevante en las crisis recientes (derivados y «hedge funds») y operaciones financieras, propiedad y responsabilidad moral. Proponemos prestar atención a los instrumentos y estructuras de alto potencial de imprudencia (HIPI y HIPS) y finalmente ofrecemos una respuesta.

In the light of the financial crises of the last decades, we examine whether the financial system can be considered as a «structure of sin». Firstly, we deal with Catholic Social Teaching and other authors’ statements on our question. The second part opens up an ethical reflection on some sensitive points: financial instruments which have played an important role in recent crises (derivatives and hedge funds) and financial operations, property and moral responsibility. We propose to pay attention to High Imprudence Potential Instruments and Structures (HIPI and HIPS) and finally we offer a response.
