Pintura mural gótica en Navarra y sus relaciones con las corrientes europeas. Siglos XIII y XIV

Abstract

En este trabajo se muestra la importancia alcanzada por los muralistas que trabajaban en Navarra durante los siglos XIII, XIV y XV. La ubicación geográfica del antiguo Reino y su política exterior favorecerá las influencia foráneas recibidas a través de los propios artistas procedentes de diversos lugares de la Península y de Europa Occidental, con especial atención a los modelos de Francia, Inglaterra e Italia. La pintura mural gótica navarra, cada vez mejor conocida, tanto por los recientes hallazgos como por las investigaciones últimas, merece ser divulgada ya que ocupa un lugar de primer orden en las artes europeas de su tiempo.

The significance of muralist artists working in Navarre in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries is outlined in this paper. The geographical location and foreign policy of this ancient kingdom facilitated the reception of external influences through the work of artists who came from the Iberian Peninsula itself and Western Europe generally – in particular, models originating in France, England and Italy. Gothic mural painting of Navarre, recognition of which is growing due to recent discoveries and the latest research, deserves further attention because it occupies an important position in the European art of its time.
