Pío Cid soy yo: Mito/auto/bio/grafía de Ángel Ganivet

Abstract

Mi ensayo analiza no la historicidad de la bien conocida naturaleza autobiográfica de Pío Cid, sino el uso imaginativo de su autorrepresentación modernista. Ateniéndose a tal estética, Ganivet se apropió de figuras míticas y estereotipos tomados de la tradición cultural española y del mundo occidental para construir la alegoría del Maestro, Poeta y benevolente "Pater familias", que se arrogó la tarea de transformar la nación transformándose espiritualmente primero, y transformando a los que lo rodeaban. This essay analyzes not the well known autobiographical nature of Pío Cid´s construction but, rather, Ganivet´s imaginative use of modernist aesthetics in his self-representation. Ganivet appropiated mythical figures and stereotypes drawn from Western and Spanish cultural traditions to construct an allegory of the Teacher, Poet, and benevolent "Pater familias", who took upon himself the labors of transforming the nation by first spiritually transforming himself and those around him.
