Evangelización, proselitismo y ecumenismo

Abstract

El proselitismo pertenece a la misión evangelizadora de la Iglesia. La connotación negativa que para algunas personas tiene la palabra no debe hacer desaparecer ni su uso ni la actividad que designa. Así lo muestra un estudio detenido del término en la Sagrada Escritura y en la tradición de la Iglesia. Se deben excluir las formas de proselitismo violento o sectario, pero en el marco del diálogo ecuménico también se debe intentar ayudar a las personas para que lleguen a la plenitud de la verdad en la Iglesia Católica.

Proselytizing is part of the mission of evangelization of the Church. The negative connotations that the word has for many people should not lead the disappearance of its use or the activity it refers to. This is obvious from a detailed study of the term in the Scriptures and in the tradition of the Church. Violent or sectarian forms of proselytism must be avoided, but within the framework of ecumenical dialogue we should also give help to people so that they may reach the full truth of the Catholic Church.
