Dios y libertad humana en el pensamiento de Miguel de Unamuno

Abstract

La tesis doctoral se centra en el problema formulado posteriormente a Unamuno por Jean Paul Sartre: «si Dios existe el hombre no puede ser libre; pero si el hombre es libre, Dios no puede existir». Para Unamuno, Dios como el Otro pone al hombre las barreras de la ley natural que el hombre no puede en ningún modo superar. No sorprende, pues, que el catedrático de Salamanca, suela repetir en sus textos que la libertad es la conciencia de la ley. Así pues, el estar-en-el mundo implica una participación activa del ser humano en la ley divina, que no aniquila, sino que perfecciona las capacidades volitivo-intelectuales del hombre; no determina, sino que, por el contrario, las potencia.

The doctoral thesis on the basis of the thought of Miguel de Unamuno, raises the issue formulated clearly by Jean Paul Sartre in his philosophical work Existentialism is a Humanism: if God exists, a man cannot be free but if a man is free, God cannot exist. According to the Spanish philosopher, God, comprehended as Other, sets boundaries to a man in the form of the natural right, which a man – a finite being is unable to exceed in any way. Therefore, it is not surprising that Unamuno in his works reiterates that freedom is the awareness of the right. Thus, the fact of being a human in the world, assumes active participation in the divine right, which does not annihilate volitional and intellectual abilities of man; on the contrary, it improves them.
