El Antiguo Testamento en el Concilio Vaticano II

Abstract

El Concilio Vaticano II dedicó una amplia atención al Antiguo Testamento: un capítulo de la Constitución Dogmática Dei Verbum (nn. 14- 16) y un apartado de la Declaración Nostra aetate (n. 4). Entre sus aportaciones destaca la confirmación del gran valor que tiene el Antiguo Testamento en sí mismo, y el reconocimiento de que la Iglesia ha recibido la revelación del Antiguo Testamento por medio de aquel pueblo, con quien Dios se dignó establecer su Alianza, y con el que se mantiene espiritualmente unida. A la vez, se señala que el punto culminante de la manifestación de Dios se alcanza en Jesucristo.

The Second Vatican Council pays extensive attention to the Old Testament: a chapter of the Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum (nn. 14-16) and a section of the Declaration Nostra Aetate (n. 4). Among its contributions, the Council highlights the confirmation of the great value of the Old Testament in itself and the recognition of the fact that the Church has received the revelation of the Old Testament through the people with whom God deigned to establish his Covenant and to whom he keeps himself spiritually united. It is also pointed out that the culmination of God’s manifestation is reached in Jesus Christ.
