This article investigares the presence of Cervantes's Don Quixote in England during the xvIlth century, through a short survey of the most prominent works that the Spanish model directly or indiretly inspired, starting from the Elizabethan and Jacobean theatrical producrions. Moreover, the comparative analysis of Shelton's first translation, 'Gayton's Pleasant Notes upan Don Quixot' and Butlees mockheroic 'Hudibras' leads us to the conclusion that the Spanish work, transplanted in English soil, generated a curious and original burlesque tradition of chivalric romance. | es_ES |
