"Seco y latoso", "viejo y venerable": el "Poema del Cid" a principios del siglo XX o del cambio en la apreciación de la literatura

Abstract

El autor estudia un elemento que relaciona la estética de producción y la de recepción de un texto literario: la "mediación" de las autoridades académicas a la hora de enfrentarse al "Poema del Cid". Confronta los juicios negativos a fines del siglo XIX con aquellos que fijaron el "Poema" en el canon literario y lo elevaron a una categoría fundacional en los manuales de estudio de Literatura Española. Estos juicios benévolos, o prejuicios, rescatan el carácter popular del "Poema", defienden su veracidad histórica y destacan su carácter nacional. The author studies the element that relates to the aesthetic of production and the reception of a literary text: the "mediation" of the academic authorities at the time of facing the "Poem of Cid". It confronts the negative judgments at the end of the 19th century among those who saw the "Poema" in the literary canon and elevated it to a foundational category in the study manuals of Spanish literature. These benevolent judgments, or prejudices, rescued the popular character of the "Poema", defended its historic truthfulness and highlighted its national character.
