La santa libertad en el magisterio teresiano

Abstract

La «santa libertad» es un aspecto fundamental del magisterio de santa Teresa. Movida por ella y en vistas de ella, la carmelita de Ávila redactó unas Constituciones con las que quiso garantizar la conservación del estilo de vida que dejó a sus hijas. Sin embargo, pocos años después de su fallecimiento, algunos reformadores contemporáneos suyos, movidos por una especie de «fariseísmo » con barniz cristiano, pusieron todos los medios a su alcance por modificarlas. El presente estudio se fija en tres aspectos regulados en dichas Constituciones: la vida de oración, la libertad de confesores y la discreción en la penitencia corporal.

«Holy freedom» is a fundamental aspect in the teachings of Saint Teresa of Ávila. Inspired by and in the light of this aspect, Saint Teresa wrote the Constitutions intended to assure the conservation of the lifestyle that she had transmitted to her daughters. Nonetheless, a couple of years after her death, some reformers, contemporaries of Teresa who were stimulated by a sort of «phariseeism» with Christian veneer, endeavored to modify them. This study revolves around three aspects regulated in the abovementioned Constitutions: the life of prayer, the freedom of confessors, and discretion in the corporal penitence.
