Abstract
The aim of this study is to focus on love letters written by women in Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries. We examine criticisms against this kind of epistolary exchange on the part of moralists and the stylistic conventions exposed in some letter writing handbooks. Finally, this article analyzes two examples of love letters written by two women of basque nobility where they make use of a passionate and courteous language and, at the same time, reveal their own strategies, interests and attitudes according to specific social, legal and cultural circumstances.
