Gramáticas calderonianas: en la intersección del lenguaje y del enredo

Abstract

El presente estudio enfoca un núcleo de procedimientos lingüísticos calderonianos en los que ciertos personajes, al exponer su situación dramática, emplean términos asociados con la gramática o la retórica. Algunos observan la congruencia o incongruencia del tema de su parlamento con respecto a lo dicho anteriormente por su interlocutor, mediante la noción gramático-dialéctica del «caso», mientras que otros adaptan, a veces mecánicamente, su narración o su argumento a un patrón establecido por otros interlocutores, sean amigos o rivales. Un tercer grupo explica sus actos o sus sufrimientos en términos lógicos y gramaticales, empleando en forma especial la distinción entre la voz activa y la pasiva. Con respecto a todos los fenómenos antedichos, se explora en qué medida estas locuciones refuerzan o trivializan el efecto afectivo, social o argumental de las escenas en cuestión.

The present study focuses on a series of Calderonian turns of phrase in which characters, when expounding their dramatic situations, use terms associated with grammar or rhetoric. In some cases they remark on the congruity or incongruity of the theme of their speeches with what others have just said in theirs, using the grammatical-rhetorical notion of «case». Others adapt their narration or their argument to a pattern set by other (friendly or rival) characters, sometimes in a mechanical way. Still others represent their actions or passions in logical or grammatical terms, especially through the distinction between active and passive voice. In all of the above cases, the study explores to what extent this language reinforces or trivializes the impact of the emotions expressed, the social situation, or the movement of the plot.
