Le monete delle colonie latine di "Hatria" e "Firmum Picenum": quadro storico e catalogazione

Abstract

The coinages of Latin colonies, due to their marginal character, have often been considered subsidiaries or imitational of the Roman issues, if not even a sign of a fault in Roman control. A better assessment of these perspectives is offered by the analysis of two case-coinages, those of <i>Hatria</i> and <i>Firmum Picenum</i>: this paper presents the catalogue and analysis of the coins issued by these colonies in the years immediately following their deduction, examined within a broad historical and archaeological context. For the colonies in Picenum, as for other Latin colonial communities, coins were both an economic and a cultural phenomenon, and their accurate study contributes to a better reconstruction of the political and social structures of the communities by which the coins were produced.

Las acuñaciones de las colonias de derecho latino, debido a su carácter marginal, han sido a menudo consideradas secundarias o imitadoras de las romanas, en otras ocasiones una verdadera anomalía de la romanización. En este ar tículo se catalogan y analizan las monedas emitidas por <i>Hatria</i> y <i>Firmum Picenum</i> inmediatamente después de su deducción. Para las colonias del Picenum –como para cualquier otra comunidad antigua– la moneda era tanto un fenómeno económico como cultural, por lo tanto, su estudio, contextualizado con datos históricos y arqueológicos, contribuye a una mejor reconstrucción del tejido político y social de las comunidades donde se acuñaron.
