dc.description.abstract | Hugh of Amiens (1085-1164), Gerhoch of Reichersberg (1092/93-1169) and William of Auvergne († 1249) gave an emphatically negative answer to the question of whether a cleric chosen by the Church to administer the sacraments can continue to do so if he is sanctioned by deposition or excommunication. This question arose from a particular conception of the relationship between the sacrament of orders and the ecclesiastical or ministerial office. Their reasoning, which attributes great importance to the jurisdictional power of the Church, is particularly relevant in the context of the struggle against simony and heresies. | en_US |
| es_ES |
