Material metálico del asentamiento romano de Marialba, Gallegos de Argañán, Salamanca

Abstract

This ar ticle aim to present the superficial metallic findings documented in a Roman site in the southwest of Salamanca that, to this day, is not investigated. The findings have been located thanks to a research project of contemporary battlefields, which is based on the intensive survey of large spaces with a metal detector. The georeferencing of the findings and their treatment by means of a GIS allow to link the non– stratified metallic objects with the areas of greater concentration of ceramic remains, defining an extension of the deposit much greater than that suggested, at first glance, by the dispersion of the ceramic material. The use of the metal detector in intensive prospecting is becoming common among Spanish archaeologists, especially to document remains associated with intense but brief war episodes. However, this tool offers great potential for the investigation of other types of deposits that are not yet recognized.

Con este artículo se pretende dar a conocer los hallazgos metálicos superficiales documentados en el yacimiento romano de Marialba, Gallegos de Argañán (Salamanca) que, a día de hoy, está sin investigar. Los materiales se han localizado en el marco de un proyecto de investigación de campos de batalla históricos, que se fundamenta en la prospección intensiva de grandes espacios mediante un detector de metales. La georeferenciación de los hallazgos y su tratamiento mediante un SIG permiten vincular los objetos metálicos no estratificados con las áreas de mayor concentración de restos cerámicos, definiendo una extensión del yacimiento muy superior a la que sugiere, a primera vista, la dispersión del material cerámico. El empleo de esta herramienta tecnológica comienza a ser habitual entre los arqueólogos españoles, especialmente para documentar restos asociados a episodios bélicos intensos pero breves. Sin embargo, también ofrece un gran potencial para la investigación de otro tipo de yacimientos que aún no se reconoce.
