(Carme)Since the beginning of his cult many lives of St. Vincent Ferrer were written, and each of them highlights or strengthens certain aspects of his multifaceted sanctity, especially in the 16th century, when, on the one hand, his image and his cult are still in process of consolidation and, on the other, there is a review of the parameters of hagiography as a result of the guidelines dictated by the Council of Trent. The analysis of the earliest stories about the saint that were elaborated in Romance in the area of Valencia (his place of origin, and where, logically, his devotion succeeded especially) will allow us to know both the avatars of certain texts throughout the century and the rewriting of the saint’s life according to the parameters that orthodoxy will dictate.
