The present paper carries out a review of Ortega y Gasset’s complex and changing ideas of theory and practice. After the early years during which theory held a predominant position, as Ortega’s thought entered into a more mature phase in the 1930s —and especially after his thorough treatment of technique— the practical dimension rose to prominence. We will defend the view that Ortega’s proposal to understand radical reality as quehacer (taskto- do) constitutes an attempt to overcome this problem.
