- La mirada delatada: la fotografía como estrategia de proyecto en arquitectura(Servicio de Publicaciones Universidad de Navarra, 2016) Fernández-Morillas, A. (Antonio)Are we able to see, literally, how pictures are disposed inside an architect’s mind when a project is born? The ‘architect’s way of looking’ it’s a quote that defines his skills in the development of strategies applied to his profession. It may define the research procedure as well, that would transform the brief, which is the thinking, into a final object built, which is the architecture piece. That way, might it would be guessed throughout the pictures taken before the interpretation of the different architectural components of that piece? May the camera be a project tool? May the camera help to understand an architect’s visual-world reference? Going further, might the architect’s way of looking be transposed as visual identity itself and be elevated as an entity aside from the architecture piece? The aim of this essay is to introduce a new methodological approach that could be applied to the architectural research, then, to the architectural learning practice. The methodology developed, which has an Arts Based Research background, uses as strategies the Couple of pictures, the Photographical series and the Photo-essay. During the experimentation process, data compilation and results are hold up with images. In this way of approaching the fact, images are responsible of sketching out, carrying out and concluding a discourse which is built up on a visual way so as the artistic discipline does. Moreover, the relevance of the photography during the process would be evaluated, not only as a fast way to stock out information, but also, as a way of utilise the visual strength of images that allow communicate specifical values of each research, specifically in architecture. Exploring the links related to the artistic and architectural disciplines, may contribute to the discovering of places whereby starting to understand the reality on a different way.
