    ¿La astrología como ciencia? Un estudio comparativo entre el "Astrólogo fingido" de Calderón de la Barca y la versión en inglés "The Feign'd Astrologer" (1668)

    La temática principal trazada en "El astrólogo fingido", comedia calderoniana de principios del siglo XVII, fue adaptada a los nuevos gustos del régimen monárquico inglés de la Restauración con la publicación y representación en 1668 de la comedia anónima titulada "The Feign'd Astrologer". A pesar de las semejanzas y diferencias tanto temáticas como estructurales existentes entre ambas fuentes, el discurso astrológico que en ellas se desarrolla se erige en el elemento central hacia el que dichas obras convergen. Este ensayo se centra en un estudio comparativo entre la versión calderoniana y la adaptación inglesa de 1668. Se observará cómo el discurso sobre la astrología pone en juego toda una retórica de enredos que acaba por sancionar a ésta como un elemento para transmitir de falsedad y engaño, poniendo así en entredicho su carácter científico y convirtiéndola en objeto de constante burla y comicidad. The principal themes developed in Calderón’s comedy "El astrólogo fingido", written early in the 17th century, were adapted to the new tastes of the English Restoration period when it premiered and was published in 1668 as "The Feign'd Astrologer". In the face of their similarities and differences, both thematic and structural, it is astrological discourse that becomes the common thread binding these two works. This study will focus on a comparative analysis of Calderón’s version and its anonymously written British counterpart. It will be displayed that the astrological discourse sets in motion a complex structure of interlaced plots and subplots that ends by sanctioning this “science” as a transmitter of lies and deceit. As a result, its objective character is questioned and astrology is converted into a target of ridicule and a source of comic relief.
