Although the Pope wasn’t a politician, the pontificate of John Paul II had its political aspect. In order to define this dimension of his pontificate four essential elements must be pointed out: a) the papal impact on the politics of the states; b) his participation in the formation of international relations; c) the impact of John Paul II towards the development of a religious freedom; d) the personal religious inspiration of politicians. The Polish Pope had a special influence on the initiation of the process of dismantling the Soviet bloc after 1989.
