Historiadores bajo la sombra de la sospecha. La percepción de la historiografía en la Ilustración
(Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Navarra, 2022) Soriano-Muñoz, N. (Nuria)
In the context of the controversies that affected the writing and qualities of historians, this article analyzes their perception in the Enlightenment. This perception is linked to the debates that invade historiography at the hands of linguistic turn. The study of the plurality of voices, located in the press and other less used printed forms, allows us to delve into the prevailing attitude of disenchantment and confusion in public sphere. This analysis allows to question the image of the historian as an aseptic compiler of documents that support of a more critical and rational history, compared to the previous one. The rejection of the use of the passions and the separation between history and literature did not prevent many scholars from being aware of how his personality intervened in historical writing, including matters that had nothing to do with the past. The analysis of this distrust in the historian breaks with the interpretive rigidity of a more eclectic century, which shows great doubts in the definition of his historical references and many of the historiographical suspicions that overflow our contemporaneity.
