Abstract

A great part of this study will be dedicated to elucidating his concept of the good. Since “one opposite is known through the other,”8 it is evident that unless there is a correct conception of the good, it will not be possible to approach the problem of evil in an adequate manner. Moreover, since “providence pertains only to that knowledge which is concerned with means to ends and in so far as these means are ordained to ends,”9 studying the concept of good and how this can be applied in theodicy will not be a diversion from the topic of providence but rather a treatment of what is essential to it.
