Abstract
The proclamation of the year 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers is aimed at recognising, promoting, facilitating and improving volunteer services. It is a universal phenomenon that is spreading and can resolve the negative consequences of globalisation. It is considered to be an effective mean of obtaining the participation of all members in the positive development of society. Volunteering constitutes a mean of social education.
