Al margen de esto, sus reflexiones sobre los distintos momentos existenciales del hombre abren paso a una peculiar postura en la cuestión de las relaciones entre libertad y gracia; Malebranche was aware of the polemic between Bossuet and Fénelon about loving God unselfishly, but he did not express his opinion on it until Lamy used his works to support Fénelon’s ideas about pure love. In his «Treatise on the love of God,» he voiced his opinion, resorting to his own definition of will –as a desire for happiness– to justify the impossibility of loving God completely selflessly. He argues that love, because it is moved by the desire for happiness impressed in the human spirit, is always a selfish love. However, it can become selfless love when one’s aim is identification with God’s will. His opinion, based on the distinction between motive and aim in his interpretation of pleasure and in causal theory, justifies an analysis of his doctrine on will, revealing the harmony between his notions of will and the possibility that the desire for happiness may lead us to God’s love. According to Malebranche, the union between his notions of will would be possible if order was established as a formal motive for the obtention of happiness. Malebranche and Fénelon understand unselfishness differently. For Malebranche, it means the subordination of the desire for happiness to the love of order. Moreover, Malebranche’s writings show his reflections on the different situations in a human being’s life, and the relationship between freedom and grace.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZLa Misericordia divina en Juan Pablo IIhttps://hdl.handle.net/10171/412842020-03-03T13:24:10Z2016-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: La Misericordia divina en Juan Pablo II
This is a study of the Divine Mercy in the magisterium of John Paul II. A detailed study is made of the concept of mercy in his principal documents, with a special focus on the trinitarian trilogy: encyclicals Redemptor hominis, Dives in misericordia and Dominum et vivificantem. Particular attention is paid to the encyclical Dives in misericordia, which offers an ample monothematic reflection on mercy and therefore forms the basic document for the analysis of the concept of mercy. The concept of mercy in other writings of Pope John Paul II, both before and after his election as Pope, is also studied. Finally, some inquiry is made on the influence of Saint Faustina Kowalska’s life and writings on the reflections of the Pope and on his devotion to the Divine Mercy. The following conclusions may be drawn: firstly, the theme of mercy is a true nucleus in the thought of John Paul II, who experienced this mercy in his lifetime through contact with people who were themselves models of mercy. Secondly, John Paul II believed that the world today needs to hear the message of mercy and to recall that the divine mercy puts limits to evil. Finally, the spirituality of divine mercy spread by Saint Faustina Kowalska has been theologically reinforced by the teachings of John Paul II.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZCatequética en los Estados Unidos Cinco autores católicos (1966-1992)https://hdl.handle.net/10171/412832020-03-03T13:25:51Z2016-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Catequética en los Estados Unidos Cinco autores católicos (1966-1992)
The thesis studies the intellectual background of catechesis in the United States in the period extending from the conclusion of Vatican Council II (1965) until the year in which the Catechism of the Catholic Church was published (1992). To achieve this objective the concept of catechesis is analysed in the writings of five catholic authors, namely, Gabriel Moran, Berard L. Marthaler, James Michael Lee, Michael Warren and Thomas H. Groome. The research contains three main lines: (1) A study of the historical process of catechesis in the United States from pioneer times onward (including a consideration of publication of the catechism of the 3rd Baltimore Council). (2) This historical research allows us to identify major authors in this particular geographical area and leads to a second line of research, the study of the nature and purposes of the catechesis according to the five authors mentioned above. (3) The third line of study analyzes the intellectual influences and the discussions that took place among the authors themselves. In the last chapter of the thesis, entitled «Towards a general assessment of the authors», the background of American new catechetics emerges. John Dewey’s philosophy, Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann’s sociology of knowledge and that of the welsh sociologist Raymond Williams, the development psychology of James Fowler and Lawrence Kohlberg, and the thinking of Jürgen Habermas, stand out as the major intellectual currents influencing the five authors studied.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZThe reception of the Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris Consortio by anglo saxon authorshttps://hdl.handle.net/10171/412822020-03-03T13:24:13Z2016-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: The reception of the Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris Consortio by anglo saxon authors
Abstract: The family institution plays a vital role in the whole of society. It is from this place that the person, as a citizen, is prepared to take on the challenges that will he or she will face later on in life. Among the matrimonial and family challenges which require attention, based on truth and mercy from an ecclesial perspective are: the increase in cases of divorce and cohabitation, childhood poverty, illiteracy, juvenile delinquency etc. The Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris consortio by Saint Pope John Paul II tackles a wide range of issues affecting the marital institution, based on Sacred Scripture and previous magisterial pronouncements. It also makes use of arguments drawn from theological and sacramental reflection. The Pope’s intention is to assist not only Christian couples, but all men and women of goodwill. The themes that are most prominent in this document are: the sacramental nature of marriage, the truth and significance of sexuality, unity in marriage and family. Additionally, the document states that parents’ role in the education of the children cannot be ignored or sidelined since their contribution is vital for the children’s growth. There is a growing consensus that when the family institution is supported and there is cooperation with the State, then both institutions benefit. The principle of subsidiarity works for the benefit of both parties. All this is essential if the Church is to fulfill its role in guiding its faithful towards happiness.; La institución de la familia juega un papel importante en la sociedad.
