Lingüística empática

Abstract

La lingüística se está volviendo más técnica, más experimental, más informatizada en los últimos años. Pese a todos los avances técnicos y metodológicos, el presente trabajo postula que la base inicial de la investigación lingüística sea la empatía, es decir, que el investigador puede y debe, en el caso de los objetos lingüísticos, no solo observarlos desde fuera, como si de cualquier objeto de la naturaleza se tratara, sino que deberá intentar ver el objeto desde su propia configuración, re-creándolo dentro de sí para comprender su verdadera esencia. Se argumentará que el punto de partida de la investigación lingüística debe ser la empatía, y esto tanto en los estudios de la lengua actual como en los estudios diacrónicos, ya que la creatividad lingüística permite desarrollar intuiciones incluso acerca de estados de lengua pasados.

Linguistics has become more and more technical, digitalized and experimental in the last years. Without denying the technical and methodological advantages of these evolutions, the present paper postulates that the initial base of linguistic research should be human empathy: language should not only be observed from outside, as it were a natural object. The researcher should rather take profit from the possibility of assuming the object departing from its own configuration, re-creating it within his own mind in order to understand its real essence. It will be argued that linguistics ought to be empathic in studies of current languages as well as in diachronic research since linguistic creativity allows also for intuitions on previous states of a language.
