La nueva sede del Parlamento de Navarra: la transformación de la antigua Audiencia de Pamplona

Abstract

La parcela que alberga el edificio presenta una compleja geometría, una manzana con forma de cuadrilátero irregular. El edificio, que hasta fechas recientes alojaba la Audiencia Territorial de Pamplona, fue construido entre los años 1890 y 1897 y es uno de los más señalados exponentes con que cuenta la ciudad de Pamplona de la denominada arquitectura ecléctica. La rehabilitación fue regida por una serie de principios: en primer término estaría la consideración del edificio existente como un contenedor; inme- diatamente después se imponía valorar el vaciado interior de la manzana; lo que llevaba a conservar la crujía exterior del volumen prescindiendo, en cambio, tanto de la crujía interior, como de los elementos edificados que estrangulaban el patio; en el espacio central se excavaba una concavidad que aloja- ría el Salón de Plenos y el vacío del Atrio; sobre ellos, una piel ligera —un muro-cortina de vidrio— cierra el volumen interiormente, a modo de vasodiafragma que contiene el espacio del nuevo intersticio que se genera entre el aire libre del patio interior y la masa construida preexistente: contra el suelo y la crujía del edificio que se mantiene.

The geometry of the site on which the building currently stands is complex, a quadrilateral area with unequal sides. Until recently the seat of the Territorial Court of Pamplona, the building was built between 1890 and 1897 and is one of the outstanding examples of the so-called eclectic architecture of the city of Pamplona. The renovation was governed by a set of principles: first, an assessment of the existing building as a container; thereafter, an evaluation of the cleared interior space of the block was to be carried out; then, the preservation of the external frame, with the removal of the internal frame as well as the built structures that crowded the patio area; a concave space was then hollowed out to accommodate the hall for plenary sessions and the atrium; a thin layer (a wall/curtain of class) closed off the space on the inside, a glassdiaphragm containing the space encompassing the open air of the interior patio and the existing built structure, between the floor and the unaltered frame.
