El doctorado de san Josemaría en la Universidad de Madrid

Abstract

El fundador del Opus Dei llegó a Madrid en 1927 con la intención de hacer su tesis doctoral en Derecho. El primer trabajo que abordó, la ordenación sacerdotal de mestizos y cuarterones durante la evangelización de América, se perdió en los años de la Guerra Civil. El hallazgo en el Archivo General de la Prelatura de unos breves fragmentos de un capítulo del borrador ha permitido recomponer las diversas fases de los pasos de san Josemaría hasta llegar a la lectura de una nueva memoria doctoral, en 1939, sobre la peculiar jurisdicción canónica de la Abadesa de las Huelgas. El estudio –cuya fuente principal es la correspondencia con José Pou de Foxá, catedrático de Derecho Romano de la Universidad de Zaragoza– se entrelaza con otros aspectos primordiales de la vida del santo, entre los que destacan la búsqueda del modo de incardinarse en Madrid y, sobre todo, su constante atención al desarrollo del Opus Dei.

The founder of Opus Dei arrived to Madrid in 1927 with the intention of doing his doctoral thesis in Law. The first project he undertook, on the priestly ordination of mestizos and cuarterones during the evangelisation of America, was lost during the Spanish Civil War. The discovery, in the General Archive of the Prelature, of a brief chapter of the draft has allowed for a reconstruction of the different phases of the itinerary of St. Josemaría, so as to arrive to the reading of a new memory of the doctorate, in 1939, regarding the peculiar canonical jurisdiction of the Abbess of las Huelgas. The study, whose principal source is the correspondence with José Pou de Foxá, professor of Roman Law at the University of Saragossa, is intertwined with other initial aspects of the life of the saint, among which stand out the search of the way of incardinating himself in Madrid, and, above all, his constant attention to the development of Opus Dei.
