Expresiones de forma y función en las metáforas técnicas

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene por objeto analizar las metáforas técnicas de los ámbitos de la joyería, la costura y los peinados, de alta presencia en el léxico de especialidad. El método seguido parte del análisis de los usos lingüísticos de estas metáforas para comprobar que un índice muy elevado se relaciona con los conceptos de forma/morfología y unión/sujeción de piezas, desechando en la mayor parte de los casos el sentido de ornamentación o estética que conllevan en la lengua general. Las metáforas de forma muestran una percepción casi pictórica, por ser un acoplamiento desdibujado del primitivo premetafórico al que aluden. Las expresiones de función inherentes a las metáforas de forma se muestran como mucho más pragmáticas, por definir un fin utilitario al explicar el propósito de un objeto. En conclusión, el estudio muestra el binomio forma-función de las metáforas técnicas en las que la simple mención de una forma sirve para marcar una funcionalidad técnica.

This article tries to analyze the technical metaphors based upon the fields of jewelry, sewing and hairdressing, the three of them with a high index of appearance in the special languages. The method departs from the analysis of the linguistic uses of the aforementioned metaphors to verify that a high level of them is related with the concepts of shape/morphology and joining/fastening, leaving aside in most cases the sense of ornamentation or aesthetics they convey in general language. Shape metaphors show an almost pictorial perception of reality since they are a kind of blurred coupling of the premetaphoric primitive to which they refer. The expressions of function inherent to shape metaphors are highly pragmatical, since they respond to a utilitarian aim when they explain the purpose of an object. In conclusion, the article shows a binomial shape-function in technical metaphors in which the only reference to a shape is used to highlight a technical function or purpose.
