La unificación intencional y la unidad sustancial en el pensamiento de Leonardo Polo

Abstract

Tomando por guía la lección 7ª del segundo volumen del Curso de Teoría del Conocimiento de L. Polo, se estudia la relación entre el alma, la inteligencia y los actos de entender. Se examina la aporía que resulta de situar la diferencia entre alma e inteligencia a nivel categorial, como sustancia y accidente, así como la aporía de considerar el acto de entender como una actualización de la naturaleza humana a través de la facultad inmaterial en potencia. De un modo positivo se responde con la diferencia entre la unificación intencional del alma y las cosas en el conocer y las unidades sustanciales reales, así como reconduciendo la diferencia entre potencia y acto a la relación trascendental entre esencia humana y su acto de ser.

Taking Lecture 7 of the second volume of L. Polo’s Course on Theory of Knowledge as a guide, I study the relationship between soul, intelligence and acts of understanding. I examine the aporia that results from situating the difference between soul and intelligence at the categorial level, as substance and accident, as well as that aporia which derives from viewing the act of understanding as actualization of human nature by means of the immaterial faculty in potency. In a positive vein, I respond with the difference between the intentional unification of the soul with things in knowledge on one hand, and real substantial unities on the other. I also redirect the difference between potency and act to the transcendental relation between human essence and its act of being.
