Vivir, escribir y pensar en "el 98" desde Cataluña

Abstract

El artículo sostiene que fue en Cataluña donde se "descubrieron" a los principales autores de la generación del 98, como Unamuno y Baroja, quienes encontraron acogida en las revistas literarias de entonces. El autor reseña cómo se desarrollaron los aires renovadores del "modernismo" en el caso específico de Barcelona, considerando sus aspectos sociales y literarios. El "modernismo catalán" sería entonces, más que literatura, "un modo de ser". Finalmente traza las reacciones en Cataluña con respecto al "desastre" del 98 y su manera de superar los dramáticos hechos de la Guerra de Cuba. The article sustains that it was in Cataluña where the principal authors of the Generation of ‘98 were discovered, for instance Unamuno and Baroja, who found refuge in the literary magazines of the time. The author summarizes how the innovative airs of Modernism developed in the specific case of Barcelona, considering its social and literary aspects. "Catalán Modernism" would be, then, rather than literature, "a way of being". Finally, the author traces the reactions in Cataluña with respect to the "disaster" of ’98 and its manner of going beyond the dramatic facts of the Cuban War.
