Las fuentes humanísticas en la historiografía quevediana: los reyes primitivos en la "España defendida"

Abstract

Annio de Viterbo inventó una historia de España con veinticuatro falsos reyes, que algunos historiadores españoles del siglo XVI aceptaron y adornaron. Quevedo, historiador humanista, no aceptó la autenticidad de la lista de reyes de Viterbo y en la España defendida demostró que todos estos reyes eran invenciones de la Antigüedad sin ninguna historicidad. Por ello desmonta los argumentos en que se basaba la existencia de dos de ellos: Túbal y Gerión. Annius Viterbiensis invented a history of Spain with twentyfour false kings, which some Spanish historians of the XVI Century accepted and elaborated. Quevedo, a humanist historian, did not accept the authenticity of Viterbo's list of kings and in his España defendida demonstrates that all these kings were only inventions from Antiquity without any historical evidence. To do so he refutes all the theories that proved the existence of two of these kings: Tubal and Gerion.
