Los judíos de Castilla ante el cambio de dinastía

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza la incidencia que en la evolución de la cuestión judía tuvo la guerra que a mediados del siglo XIV enfrentó por el trono de Castilla al rey Pedro I y a su hermanas-tro Enrique de Trastámara, y el consiguiente cambio de dinastía. El período que va de mediados del siglo XIII a mediados del XIV está marcado en Castilla por un notable incremento del sentimiento antijudío, que se refleja en los órdenes legal, doctrinal y de mentalidad, y la llegada al trono de la nueva dinastía no supuso un cambio sustancial en los planteamientos legales en relación con la minoría judía. Pero la guerra y las violentas manifestaciones antijudías asociadas a ella exacerbaron los sentimientos y propiciaron la confluencia entre un antijudaísmo doctrinal de base religiosa, un antijudaísmo nobiliario de naturaleza política y un antijudaísmo popular asociado a la crisis económica y social.

This study analyses the effect the mid-fourteenth century war between Peter I and his half-brother Henry of Trastámara for the thrown of Castile and the resulting dynastic change had on the evolution of the Jewish question in the kingdom. The period from the middle of the thirteenth to the middle of the fourteenth century in Castile is characterized by an increase in anti-Jewish sentiment, as mirrored in the legal, doctrinal and mental spheres. The accession of the new Trastámara dynasty to the thrown did not produce a significant change in the legal approach towards the Jewish minority. However, the war and violent anti-Jewish riots associated with this conflict radicalized the feelings of animosity towards this minority and brought about the convergence of religious doctrinal anti-Judaism, an aristocratic anti-Jewish sentiment of a political nature, and a popular one fuelled by social and economic crisis.
