Tipología de las torres campanario barrocas en Navarra

Abstract

La torre campanario constituye una de las tipologías arquitectónicas más im- portantes del barroco navarro; numerosas localidades erigieron en este perío- do una nueva torre o modificaron la anterior, convirtiéndose en un claro re- ferente de su pujanza económica y de la religiosidad de sus habitantes. Aun- que ya en el último tercio del siglo XVII se construyeron torres tan importan- tes como las de Tudela o Villafranca, su verdadero auge se produce en las dé- cadas centrales del siglo XVIII. Dependiendo de la zona geográfica en la que se localizan, pueden establecerse tres variedades tipológicas: torres de la Zona Media, emparentadas con obras del mismo tipo de la Rioja Alta y Rioja Ala- vesa, ya que los maestros que trabajan en ellas son con frecuencia los mismos; torres del Valle Medio del Ebro, relacionadas con ejemplares aragoneses y riojanos, incorporando en ocasiones una decoración geométrica común; y to- rres levantadas en los valles septentrionales de la comunidad, emparentadas tanto por su emplazamiento como por su configuración arquitectónica con soluciones empleadas en Guipúzcoa y Vizcaya.

The be11 tower is one of the most important architectonic typologies in the Baroque Navarrese: in this period many localities built a new tower or modi- fied the previous one, becoming a clear reference of their financia1 strenght and the re~i~iousness of their iñhabitants. Although in the last third of the 17th century towers as important as the ones from Tudela or Villafranca we- re built, their true development takes place in the middle decades of the 18th century. Depending on the geographical zone were they are placed, we can establish three typological varieties: towers from de Middle Zone, related to works of the same kind from the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, as the archi- tects working in them are frequently the same; towers from the middle va- lley of the River Ebro, reationed with examples from Aragon and Rioja, in- corporating sometimes a common geometrical decoration; and towers raised in the northern valleys of the region, related, because of their emplacement as well as of their architectonic configuration, to solutions employed in Gui- puzcoa and Biscay.
