El que escucha la materia: una aproximación al artesano paraguayo como constructor contemporáneo

Abstract

This article focuses on the formation of a cultural portrait of the Paraguayan craftsman, a key component in the development of the architectural style of this small Latin American country. In a totally precarious social, political and economic context, the abundant material culture of Paraguay has led to the emergence of the figure of the artisan who can manipulate abundant, locally available materials and transform it into architecture. This process is developed in collaboration with the architect through an exchange of technical experiences based on trial and error, resulting in a unique way of making architecture.

El presente artículo se centra en la conformación de un retrato cultural del artesano paraguayo, pieza clave para el desarrollo de la manifestación arquitectónica de este pequeño país latinoamericano. En un contexto social, político y económico totalmente precario, la abundante cultura material de Paraguay ha derivado en la aparición de la figura del artesano, quien tiene la capacidad de manipular la abundante materia existente en el entorno para transformarla en arquitectura. Este proceso se desarrolla en un proceso colaborativo junto al arquitecto y se articula por el intercambio de experiencias técnicas basadas en el ensayo y error, configurando una particular manera de hacer arquitectura.
