La virtud como término medio y como extremo: La interpretación de Aspasio

Abstract

It is not clear what Aristotle means when he states that virtue is a mean between two extremes in respect of its essence, but an extreme from the perspective of the good. This paper explains some of the premises of the Aristotelian theory of virtue that can be found in Aspasius’ commentary and have since been neglected by the interpretive tradition, while at the same time indicating what problems remain despite Aspasius’ explanatory attempts.

No es claro qué quiere decir Aristóteles cuando afirma que la virtud es un término medio desde el punto de vista de su esencia, pero que es un extremo desde el punto de vista del bien. Este trabajo expone algunos presupuestos de esta tesis aristotélica presentes en el comentario de Aspasio y desatendidos en la tradición interpretativa, al tiempo que muestra la pervivencia de la difi - cultad, a pesar de los intentos explicativos de Aspasio.
