Abstract

Plato bequeathed to us a fundamental principle of epistemic-political constitution that remained dominant until the twentieth century: <i>truth and justice are not matters of the demos</i>. However, the revolution in information and communication technologies has begun to undermine this principle. Digital communication networks have revolutionized the material base of society so that traditional institutions of economy, politics and culture begin to reinvent themselves in an era of media convergence and collective intelligence in which the common citizen has displaced the elites and claims for itself, fi nally, to be an arbiter of truth and the good.

Platón nos lego el principio fundamental de la constitución epistémicopolítica que ha sido hegemónica hasta el siglo XX: <i>la verdad y la justicia no son asuntos del demos</i>. Sin embargo, la revolución de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación han empezado a cuestionar ese principio. Para el autor, las redes digitales de comunicación han revolucionado de tal manera la base material de la sociedad que las instituciones tradicionales de la economía, la política y la cultura empiezan a reinventarse a sí mismas en una era de convergencia mediática e inteligencia colectiva en la que el ciudadano común ha desplazado a las élites y reclama para sí ser finalmente árbitro de la verdad y el bien.
