The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, rooted in Israel’s annexation and continued occupation of Palestinian territory contrary to international law, seems to have become an intractable and long-lasting conflict, despite numerous peace processes and negotiations under the auspices of external actors (usually members of the Security Council) aimed at reaching a solution to the conflict that satisfies the interests of both sides and brings peace and security to the Middle East. The Century Accord (2020) is the latest peace plan offered to the parties; a new attempt by the US to resolve the conflict that has been rejected by the Palestinians. But today we are also witnessing the emergence of a new element in tense Israeli-Palestinian relations: the support of certain Arab states for the State of Israel, manifested through the signing of the Abraham Accords (also sponsored by the United States): agreements on trade, economic, financial and security cooperation that are sure to generate a strategic shift in the resolution of the conflict. And new Arab states are likely to join the initiative.
